Boiled lollies?

Goodbye Green Frogs and Spearmint leaves. Apparently no longer favored by the market... though they were both sugary friends of mine as a kid. The proof of that can be seen in the number of teeth missing from my gob!

It's all Greek to me...

Greece is noted for its ancient history... and the current financial 'emergency' is shaping-up along those lines. Here are two of my cartoons on the subject, the first from June 2011 and a following comment from May 2012.

Gaiety?

The bulk of the civilized world has seen fit to recognize same-sex unions... but not us. Well, not legally anyway.

Why not?

Off with their Heads!

The political atmosphere in this country seems to be edging back to medieval values more and more with the passing of each day.

Welcome to the new peasantry.

Flags

I've heard of wannabe patriots 'clothing' themselves in a flag, but our transient leader is rapidly burying himself in a forest of flag-staffs every time he steps forward to outline his latest legislative atrocity.

I wonder if he thinks this ever expanding display of bunting enhances his public persona?

Not one jot in my opinion.

The Barrel!

Ah well Bill... the 'up' side of all this is that to be the subject of a T(A) party smear means they must be just a little bit scared of your potential with an election year looming.

The Obstacle?

Will the fearless leader stop at nothing to achieve his mastery of the policy abyss?

Turning around the boats needs to be a two-way proposition following Ship-builder BAE's decision to pull stumps on its Australian operation?

The ancient Wiltshire 'winkies' on-line again...

Jacqui's Army?

A couple of weeks ago, during my daily practice doodling I did a quick 'from memory' caricature of Jacqui Lambie's head which (I thought) turned out quite nicely. So... I put the Artline 90 (blue)* sketch aside hoping I could use it when/if J.L. popped-up on the current affairs scene sometime soon.

Yesterday I noticed a post on FB by the lady herself spruiking an idea that unemployed youth, instead of dole.payments could undergo 12 months of paid military training akin to the first National Service training system adopted in Australia during the late1940s/50s.

It suggested the above cartoon in relation to J.L.'s earlier announcement of forming a 'Lambie network' after her parting from the P.U.P. group.

* as a result of my 'use the nearest tool to hand' policy.

Aside from the satire... National Service did me a lot of good in terms of discipline and resourcefulness when applied to later life situations... so I'm not against her suggestion at all. I must've been reasonably good at the military caper because I was nominated for a NCO cadre course soon after going into the N.S, ranks, which meant I completed the nominally three  months of training in 3 weeks. I then became an assistant trainer for the rest of the full-time stint and the 3 or 4 years of part-time commitment which followed. During N.S. experience, I was offered a place in an Officer Trainng academy preparatory to a career in the military. I refused. I wasn't all THAT keen on the 'Yes sir, No sir, three bags full, sir' dictum upon which military culture is based!

The Noisy and the Ugly

Nothing I write here can top the inane blatherings of our transient 'fearless leader'.

I wonder who writes HIS material?

Victoria's 'Myki' woes

Nine years to get up and running... massive cost over-runs ($1.55 billion total implementation bill) and still suffering operational problems which rank it among the the three worst transit ticketing systems in the world...

Now the state government faces more unexpected costs payable to the current operator to keep the debacle running whilst the tendering round for future stewardship of the 'system' is delayed because someone has been 'asleep at the wheel' in a manner of speaking. I bet the Labor government (who implemented the system in the first place) were hoping the mess would remain buried as they strive to make their mark in the state leadership role after returning to power late last year.

No such luck. The money eating Beast has risen again!

Out of Touch?

I depict our esteemed Fed. Treasurer camped on Cloud 'nine'... but maybe he's on another planet?!

BTW... this was created yesterday, but not posted because my own planets were not in alignment!

Barking up the wrong trees?

Like some kind of attack-dog, Peter Dutton has launched a verbal tirade upon two notable ladies based only on what he thought they might've separately said about a) the government's seemingly un-democratic activities in relation to citizenship entitlements and b) alleged dodgy antics by security minions employed by his department in one of their concentration camps on Nauru.

Ministerial standards in this country are already appalling... and continuing to decline it seems.

There ought to be Clowns...

Joe has characterized as 'clowns' economists talking of an imminent recession. What if they're right?

In that theory may also reside the options available to avoid such an outcome?

The Walking Fish

This S.E. Asian fresh-water fish (Aka Climbing Perch) is reportedly on the march (literally) toward Australia's north having already over-run Indonesia, then P.N.G. and now arrived on two Torres Strait islands under Australian jurisdiction. Apart from swimming, this creature walks on dry land, indeed can exist out of water for extraordinary periods of time. It is aggressive towards other fish species and not likely to be naturally controlled by other animal predators such as birds.
